Roots Dental was founded in Verona more than three decades ago and it is still run by the same family. When you call in pain, you are not going through a switchboard to a stranger.
We keep time open every day for urgent cases. Toothache, infection, swelling, broken teeth, knocked-out teeth, lost fillings and crowns, wisdom teeth, and dental injuries are all treated here, for children, adults, and seniors alike.
We take an X-ray, tell you plainly what is wrong, and get you out of pain. Sedation is available if fear is what has kept you away. No lectures and no judgment.
What we treat
Most dental emergencies fall into one of three groups. Pick the one that sounds like you, and then call us. We will tell you how quickly you need to be seen.
Throbbing pain that will not settle, a tooth that is sensitive to heat or pressure, swelling in the gum or face, or a bad taste from an abscess. This is infection, and it does not resolve on its own. We settle the pain, drain and clear the infection, and treat the tooth with a root canal or an extraction depending on what the X-ray shows.
A fall, a sports injury, or biting down on something hard. If an adult tooth has been knocked out, keep it in milk and call us immediately, because the first hour matters most. Broken and cracked teeth are repaired, and injured gums and lips are cleaned and closed.
Not every emergency involves severe pain, but an exposed tooth or a sharp edge gets worse the longer it is left. We recement crowns, replace fillings, smooth broken edges, adjust painful dentures, and treat bleeding or ulcerated gums.

An extraction removes a tooth that cannot be saved and stops the infection spreading. We take an X-ray, look at it with you, and tell you plainly which one you need. Tell us what is happening. Pain, swelling, bleeding, and knocked-out teeth go to the front of the list, and we will give you an arrival time on the call.
We examine you, take an X-ray, and settle the pain and the infection first. Sedation is available if you are anxious.
Root canal, extraction, repair, or drainage, depending on what your X-ray shows. Wherever possible we treat it the same visit.
We check the healing, replace anything temporary, and get you back to normal. Then we keep looking after you, like we have done here for thirty years.

He listens before he speaks, explains every step before he does it, and will tell you honestly whether a tooth can be saved or needs to come out.

Dr. Aboukaff is a residency-trained pediatric dentist and leads Little Roots, our children's practice. If your child has knocked out a tooth or cannot sleep for the pain, she is who they will see.

Yes. Dr. Tanya Aboukaff is a residency-trained pediatric dentist and leads Little Roots, our children's practice in the same building. Knocked-out baby teeth, chipped front teeth, and toothache in children are handled here, gently and quickly.
Pick the tooth up by the crown, not the root. Rinse it gently with milk or saline if it is dirty, and do not scrub it. If you can, place it back in the socket and bite on clean gauze. If not, keep it in milk or saliva and call us immediately. An adult tooth has the best chance of surviving if it is replanted within the first hour.
That depends on how much healthy tooth is left and whether the infection can be cleared. A root canal saves the tooth and removes the infected nerve inside it. An extraction removes the tooth when it cannot be saved. We take an X-ray, look at it with you, and tell you plainly which one you need and why.
You will not be lectured here. Most emergency patients arrive having avoided the dentist for a long time. We explain every step before we do it and sedation is available if anxiety is what has been stopping you.
Bring whatever plan you have and we will work with it. We verify your benefits, apply everything you are entitled to, and file the claims ourselves.
Rinse with warm salt water, use a cold compress on the outside of your cheek for the swelling, keep your head elevated when lying down, and take an over-the-counter painkiller you normally tolerate. Do not put aspirin directly on the gum and do not apply heat to a swollen face. Call us and we will talk you through it.
